The Sabbath Is A Mercy…NOT a Sacrifice

Good Morning!

Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”  -Mark 2:27 AMP

I think this is such a good reminder of the importance of a Sabbath, or a day of rest. God didn’t create us for the Sabbath, as in our purpose is to take a good Sabbath in a certain way. But He created the Sabbath for us to take a day of rest. There is lots of research that shows that when we take a day of rest once a week that there is multiple benefits to our minds and bodies. A break in the grind of life once a week helps reset your body, mind, and soul for us to operate at our optimum. God didn’t need the rest on the seventh day of creation but He took it as an example for us to follow. The Sabbath should not be the only day out of the week that we worship God, we should worship God every day of the week but on the Sabbath we rest in a way that brings a reset to our body, mind, and soul and that rest may look different for different people depending on your personality. Knowing that the Sabbath was made for us and not us for the Sabbath, how does that change how your view of what God wants for us?

“A world without a Sabbath would be like a man without a smile, like summer without flowers, and like a homestead without a garden. It is most joyous day of the week.”  -Henry Ward Beecher

“Sabbath is not simply the pause that refreshes. It is the pause that transforms.”  -Walter Brueggermann

Dad Joke of the Day:

Johnny: I really wish I’d listened to what my mother told me when I was young.

Timmy: Why, what did she tell you?

Johnny: I don’t know. I didn’t listen.

Have a great Tuesday!
