When someone doubts us, we tend to swear by or swear to something that it is true. Our words cannot convince someone if they choose to not be convinced but our actions can. It is through our actions and the results of what we say that people will believe us. When we say something that is not true or we say we will do something that we have no intention of doing, we lose trust of the people around us. Then the next time when we are saying the truth or we intend to do something, we think we must convince them by swearing to something in order for them to believe us.
