Preceding this verse, the Pharisees were questioning why Jesus was hanging out with tax collectors and sinners (tax collectors were considered some of the worst people at that time because of how they cheated people out of money). Jesus response to them was the above verse. If we let pride stand in the way of truly following God, we will never fully experience what it means to follow Jesus.
