But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said [He would]. Come! See the place where He was lying.” -Matthew 28:5-6 AMP
The women that went to the tomb were Mary Magdalene and Mary, the mother of James, and their intent was to prepare Jesus’ body for proper burial as His body had been put in there in somewhat of a hurry due to it being Sabbath the next day and them not being able to do anything like that on the Sabbath. So this was Sunday morning early after Sabbath and when they came up to the tomb the large stone covering it had been rolled away and they encountered an angel. It says that the angel’s appearance was like lightning and his clothes were white as snow and he said the above verse to the women. There had to have been a lot of fear and disappointment for all of Jesus’ followers since Friday and to receive the news that He had risen was not only a relief but filled with excitement as well. The angel said to come look at where He had been laying and I imagine you could see the blood there yet from all the abuse that He endured. What jumped out at me was that it says He has risen just as He said He would. How many times do I doubt that God will do what He said He will do in my life? There are so many promises of God to us in the Bible, do I fully believe that He will do what He says He will do?
