Temptation

Good Morning!

When the devil had finished every temptation, he [temporarily] left Him until a more opportune time. -Luke 4:13

This was the devil tempting Jesus at the most vulnerable time he could think of, Jesus had just went 40 days without food and was probably weak and at a vulnerable state of mind. I read this and I think to myself if the devil tempted Jesus I can be assured he will tempt me as well. And notice how after he couldn’t break Jesus he left for a more opportune time. The devil hadn’t given up at that point even after he failed three times to entice Jesus. If you read this whole passage you will notice how Jesus combatted every temptation with Scripture even the one where the devil quoted scripture to Him. We need fellowship with Jesus in order to be able to fight off the enemy and if we make an effort to take in scripture the Holy Spirit will bring that scripture to mind at the right time that you can use to your defense. On our own we will not be able to withstand the temptations but through Jesus and the Holy Spirit we have the power to withstand all temptations. We are at war, spiritually, and going to war with the right weapons is important.

“We gain the strength of the temptation we resist.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Don’t just run from temptation, look it in the eye and defeat it.” -Baylor Barbee

Dad Joke of the Day:

I don’t know who needs to hear this but even if a bear wears socks and shoes, he still has bear feet.

Have a great Tuesday!
