Parable of the Sower: Part 3 of 4

Good Morning!

Parable of the Sower: Part 3 of 4

And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word, but the worries and cares of the world [the distractions of this age with its worldly pleasures], and the deceitfulness [and the false security or glamour] of wealth [or fame], and the passionate desires for all the other things creep in and choke out the word, and it becomes unfruitful.   -Mark 4:18-19

This group of people are the ones that were on fire for God at one point. Slowly life distracted them in one way or other, maybe their career started taking precedence over their faith, or they started hanging out with people that slowly pulled them away from the Christian lifestyle, it could be a variety of different things. Whatever it was it would have happened slowly over time, like weeds, it started very small and subtlety, then it would have gotten a little bigger and gained more attention in life starting to starve out the nutrients of our faith, until it got to the point where it just took over and starved out whatever faith we might still have. This is an area where every Christian should evaluate their faith on a regular basis and ask themselves where the weeds are in their lives and what we need to do to pull them out, if we let them get too big before we pull them it might pull out the good fruit with it so therefore it is important to pull them while they are still small. Just like a garden or flowerbed, our life and our faith will constantly have weeds and it takes maintenance to keep up on it.

“Your mind is a garden, your thoughts are the seeds. You can grow flowers, or you can grow weeds.”

“Without hard work, nothing grows but weeds.”  -Gordon B Hinckley

Dad Joke of the Day:

I’ve heard so much about the “Eye of the Tiger,” but how come no one talks about the other 4 letters?

Have a great Thursday!
