Freedom

Good Morning!

Therefore do not let what is a good thing for you [because of your freedom to choose] be spoken of as evil [by someone else]; for the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking [what one likes], but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.   -Romans 14:16-17

Just because we can doesn’t mean we should. We have a lot of freedom in Christ, but like this verse states, if it is not bringing righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit then we might want to reconsider what we are doing. If what we are doing is disrupting someone else’s view of life in a bad way then we may want to consider not doing, whatever that is, in front of them. Even if you have the freedom to do it, if it causes them to stumble is it really worth it? And again, life is not a matter of what we eat or what we drink, isn’t it about producing fruit in the kingdom of God and growing the kingdom of God?

“Just because we can doesn’t mean we should. Just because we always have doesn’t mean we always have to. Once we know better, we should choose better.”  -Colleen Patrick-Goudreau

“Christian freedom does not mean being free to do as we like; it means being free to do as we ought.”  -William Barclay
