For it is better that you suffer [unjustly] for doing what is right, if that should be God’s will, than [to suffer justly] for doing wrong. -1 Peter 3:17
We should always do what is right. I used to think that is easy, it is just a matter of making the decision to do what is right and if you know you are doing what is right then if you suffer unjustly at least you can know that you still did the right thing. A lot times it is that simple and it is just a matter of doing the right thing, but sometimes you think you are doing the right thing and then the enemy starts to creep in through comments from other people or he creeps into your thoughts making you think you did or are doing the wrong thing. I think a lot of it has to do with motive; are you doing it out of selfish reasons or does it go against what the Bible teaches us? I think if we can honestly say no to both of those reasons then we are doing the right thing. Just remember, the enemy would much rather that we be selfish and go against Biblical standards, so he is going to do everything he can to make us doubt ourselves when we are choosing to do the right thing.
