Therefore encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing. -1 Thessalonians 5:11
I would encourage you greatly to read the beginning of this chapter leading up to this verse. We as believers have a responsibility to not only be a light to the people around us that aren’t believers but also to build up, encourage, and comfort our fellow believers. There are lots of ways to do that but lending a listening ear is necessary in order to know how to encourage them. It also means we have to take our focus off of ourselves and point our focus towards other people. When we enter a conversation looking for clues and ways to encourage the other person it automatically helps us pay attention to what they are saying as well as forcing us to take the focus off of ourselves. Let us enter our conversations today with the intention to build up the other person.
