Good Morning!
[Live] as obedient children [of God]; do not be conformed to the evil desires which governed you in your ignorance [before you knew the requirements and transforming power of the good news regarding salvation]. But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your conduct [be set apart from the world by your godly character and moral courage]; because it is written, “You shall be holy (set apart), for I am holy.” -1 Peter 1:14-16
When we give our lives to Christ we will want to distance ourselves from the desires that we experienced before. The struggle is often that our flesh does not want to give up those desires. As Christ followers we should be set apart in how we approach things, how we respond to things, and how we act in our day to day. The road to becoming that (set apart) does not come from just trying harder, we might be able to do it in the short term but we will not be able to sustain it in the long term by just trying harder. What we need to do is focus on is our relationship with Jesus because through that relationship we are able to be holy, to be set apart. The way we build relationship with Jesus is by reading His Word, by spending time in prayer, by trusting that He has us, by putting our faith in Him, and by allowing Him to build our faith in Him. He cannot catch us if we refuse to let go. Relax. You can’t do it on your own. Allow Him to work. Be set apart. Be holy.
“We are not set apart to rule, but chosen and set apart to serve.” -Theodore Burton
“Whenever your focus is on doing what you want and making yourself feel good, you can be confident that the Spirit of God is not the one leading the way.” -Leslie Ludy
