Heavenly Father

Good Morning!

For if you forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins], your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others [nurturing your hurt and anger with the result that it interferes with your relationship with God], then your Father will not forgive your trespasses. -Matthew 6:14-15

This is tough to do. In our flesh, our human self, if a person wronged us it is hard to just forgive, yet on the flip side we want to be forgiven. In our flesh, we want to receive everything without giving anything which is evident in the world today. If we carry resentment it is also hard to receive what God has for us. So if we harbor unforgiveness and resentment we can not expect to have a the relationship with God that He desires for us. But if we lean into God and we allow Him to work through us and we forgive that person that we resented before and are able to move past that, our relationship with God will move to another level. It is hard and almost impossible to forgive on our own and most of the time it is only through God that we can truly forgive someone. We cannot hold someone else to the standard that we are not willing to hold ourselves to, so if we want to receive from God we should be willing to give to others.

“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you.” -Lewis Smedes
