For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God [that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.  -Romans 6:23

Everyone of us deserves death because we have all sinned and the wages of sin are death. But by the grace of God, Jesus paid the ultimate price for all of us, and we can experience the free gift of eternal life through Him. A gift is something that you can’t earn, but it is just given to you. It is our choice though, on what we do with that gift….
