Do Not Quench the Holy Spirit

Good Morning!

Do not quench [subdue, or be unresponsive to the working and guidance of] the [Holy] Spirit.  -1 Thessalonians 5:19 AMP

Do not quench the Holy Spirit. What does that mean? What I take this to mean is that there are times when the Holy Spirit is prompting us to do something that we decide it will be too uncomfortable and decide not to do whatever we are prompted to do. I think we may all have experienced this at one point or another even if we weren’t aware at the time that it was the Holy Spirit. What doesn’t help is that there are times that we follow the prompting but then it doesn’t go as we think it should have so we dismiss that it was the Holy Spirit and so the next time it happens we don’t move. We don’t know what kind of an impact that our action had, it may have planted a seed, or it may have given someone witnessing the event the courage to do the same when given the opportunity. Listening and following the prompting of the Holy Spirit takes a step of faith every single time. Every step of faith brings we take is uncomfortable but it brings us closer to God. Are you willing to take that step of faith?

“If you listen with the Spirit, you will find your heart softened, your faith strengthened, and your capacity to love the Lord increased.”  -Henry Eyring

“The Holy Spirit’s voice is as loud as your willingness to listen.”
