My son, do not reject or take lightly the discipline of the Lord [learn from your mistakes and the testing that comes from His correction through discipline]; nor despise His rebuke, for those whom the Lord loves He corrects, even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights. -Proverbs 3:11-12
I am not going to pretend that I know exactly what it looks like when God disciplines us. I think it looks different for everyone. I do know that sometimes bad things happen and God gets blamed for it as smiting us but that is oftentimes not the case, sometimes those things happen as a consequence to a decision or a trail of decisions we made. God is not waiting for you to mess up just so He can discipline you, but instead will gently guide you back to where you need to be if you let Him. For me, I have been disciplined from reading the Bible and getting convicted, or having conversations with people that I was called out and although it may have upset me at that person initially, deep down I knew that it was the truth and that I needed to hear it, I needed something to shake me up and get me back on track. God is talking to us, guiding us, and disciplining us constantly if we choose to pay attention and listen.
