He must correct those who are in opposition with courtesy and gentleness in the hope that God may grant that they will repent and be led to the knowledge of the truth [accurately understanding and welcoming it], and that they may come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. -2 Timothy 2:25-26 AMP
The “he” that is referred to is the servant of the Lord from yesterday’s verse which is referring to all of us. We are to correct those in opposition with courtesy and gentleness, not with self-righteousness and abruptness. When someone shows us opposition to God’s truth do we get upset at them and allow it to turn into an argument or do we write them off and not even talk to them, or do we ignore them and pretend like we didn’t hear it? All these ways are not what we are asked of, we are to correct but with courtesy and gentleness…….and patience. My tendency would be to ignore their comment and glaze past it instead of correcting them gently, which is not what I should be doing. What is your tendency? How do you react when someone speaks and acts in direct opposition to of God’s truth?
