A Fool And His Money Are Soon Parted

Good Morning!

There is precious treasure and oil in the house of the wise [who prepare for the future], but a short-sighted and foolish man swallows it up and wastes it.  -Proverbs 21:20 AMP

This can be looked at several different ways. Some people may look at this as referring to saving up for retirement and making sure that we are preparing for our future financially in some way. While that is wisdom and not anything I would discourage, I would challenge that this might mean more than retirement and money. This could mean our health, where God has blessed us with the opportunity to take care of ourselves but we don’t think we have time and instead make unhealthy decisions and in a lot of ways are short-sighted and wasting what God has given us, often at the expense of making money and our career. It could also mean that God has given us the knowledge of His salvation, freely dying for us and giving us the opportunity to experience freedom in Christ. But what are we doing with it, are we swallowing that up and wasting it, maybe in the pursuit of career or money? This verse is multi-faceted and can mean a number of things; what is God saying to you in this? In what way are you the house of the wise?

“Only one life, ‘twill soon be past; only what’s done for Christ will last.”  -C.T. Stud

“God has given us two hands- one to receive with and the other to give with. Make your life a channel of blessing.”  -Billy Graham
