If your eye causes you to stumble and sin, throw it out [that is, remove yourself from the source of temptation]! It would be better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell. -Mark 9:47
This sounds like a harsh passage but it makes a point. I don’t think this passage means to literally remove your eye, but to remove yourself from the temptation by other means. This can pertain to addiction of any substance, alcohol, gambling, etc., and if you struggle with it you should do everything you can to remove yourself from situations where the temptation might be bigger than what you can resist and reach out to somebody you trust to help you stay accountable. The areas that might be a bit tougher are the ones done in secret that nobody might be aware of but you. These are just as important to remove yourself from, set up accountability partnerships with people you trust, and stay in connection with God. Do not let the shame of any of this push you away from God, instead run towards Him, He is waiting on you with open arms.
