Faith

Good Morning!

You [claim to] have faith and I have [good] works; show me your [alleged] faith without the works [if you can], and I will show you my faith by my works [that is, by what I do].  -James 2:18

This is always a hard subject to keep our mind on the right track because it is easy to get wrapped up in doing works and thinking we need to somehow live a certain way or do certain things to “earn” our way to salvation or into heaven. What this verse is saying is that because of our faith, because of what God has done for us, our fruit should be bringing honor to His name, not out of obligation but out of pure joy and appreciation of what God has done for us. If we are doing works in order to earn our way into heaven we also tend to be more judgmental because we are focused on “earning”, if we are doing it out of pure joy and appreciation it is a lot harder to be judgmental because that is not the direction your mind is focused.
