Parable of the Sower: Part 2 of 4

In a similar way these [in the second group] are the ones on whom seed was sown on rocky ground, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy [but accept it only superficially]; and they have no real root in themselves, so they endure only for a little while; then, when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately they [are offended and displeased at being associated with Me and] stumble and fall away.  -Mark 4:16-17

This group of people will receive God’s Word and take it to heart but it never takes root in their lives. It would be similar to a tree that only has shallow roots and is fine in the sunshine and good weather. But then when the storm comes it does not have the depth of roots it needs to withstand the wind and therefore falls over. The Word taking root in our lives doesn’t just happen, we have to be intentional in taking it in (daily watering) and applying it to our lives in order for it to happen. What will be your step in being more intentional?

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.”  -Oscar Wilde

“The very practice of reading [the Bible] will have a purifying effect upon your mind and heart. Let nothing take the place of this daily exercise.”  -Billy Graham
