Good Morning!
For where two or three are gathered in My name [meeting together as My followers], I am there among them. -Matthew 18:20
This is comforting in knowing that when there is several people discussing God and scripture that the Holy Spirit is present. Several things that I get out of this verse…first of all, you shouldn’t do life alone; while it is important that we have our own relationship with God it is also important that we don’t isolate ourselves in our faith. Being part of a church body is important for multiple reasons, one of which is that we get refilled by other people and we refill people by being in community. Second thing I get out of this verse, if you are in a situation that you are not able to meet as a church body due to persecution, or health, or maybe for some other reason, you aren’t doomed, you can still have benefit. That all being said, I am not saying that the Holy Spirit is not present when we are by ourselves but God designed us to be in fellowship and I believe that is what this verse is encouraging.
“We are created for community, fashioned for fellowship, and formed for a family, and none of us can fulfill God’s purposes by ourselves.” -Rick Warren
“Perhaps the deepest Christian fellowship and joy we can experience in this life is at the throne of grace, praying with and for one another.” -Warren Wiersbe
