Good Morning!
You are jealous and covet [what others have] and your lust goes unfulfilled; so you murder. You are envious and cannot obtain [the object of your envy]; so you fight and battle. You do not have because you do not ask [it of God]. -James 4:2
How many times do we get jealous and covet what others have? Often what we do then is either sulk and feel sorry for ourselves or we make it our mission to work towards whatever that thing is that we are coveting and leave a path of destruction in our way. We don’t go to God because we might feel that He will think us petty and just roll His eyes at us, or we might think that we don’t need to bother Him with whatever this thing is we are struggling with as there is much more important things out there to worry about and we feel selfish going to Him about this. On the contrary, God wants us to bring it to Him and ask for His help in it. He will help us work through it and to change our perspective to where we are happy for the people that we were jealous of and who knows, He might open doors for us to achieve what we want, but with better motives. Either way, we will be far further ahead and far happier if we go to God with whatever we are dealing with no matter how big or small we think it is. Envy eats away at the inside of us and makes us miserable, God heals the inside of us and gives us fulfillment.
“It is in the character of very few men to honor without envy a friend who has prospered.” -Aeschylus
“The jealous are troublesome to others but a torment to themselves.” -William Penn
Dad Joke of the Day:
A priest, a rabbit, and a minister walk into a bar. The bartender asks the rabbit, “What’ll ya have?” The rabbit says, “I dunno. I’m only here because of Autocorrect.”
Have a great Thursday!
