Good vs Evil

Good Morning!

For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh [my human nature, my worldliness—my sinful capacity]. For the willingness [to do good] is present in me, but the doing of good is not. For the good that I want to do, I do not do, but I practice the very evil that I do not want. But if I am doing the very thing I do not want to do, I am no longer the one doing it [that is, it is not me that acts], but the sin [nature] which lives in me.  -Romans 7:18-20

So often we don’t want to do something that we know is wrong. I feel like the above verse depicts it so well what goes on inside of us. It could be an addiction that we are trying to break free from but we somehow get sucked back into it, or it might be gossip and we realize we are gossiping before we can catch ourselves. Maybe it is always focusing on the negative and we really struggle to see a positive in anything. Whatever it is we are not able to overcome it on our own. We may get to a point where we can control ourselves to not do whatever that thing is but the desire will be still be there because that is our human/fleshly nature. The only true way to overcome it and to get rid of the desire is to give it completely to God and let Him change your heart, He will change you from the inside at your very core and He can cure you from whatever that stronghold is. Only then are you able to have complete freedom from it.

Timmy: Do you smoke or drink coffee?

Johnny: I drink it.
