James 1:9-11

Good Morning!

Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position [as a born-again believer, called to the true riches and to be an heir of God]; and the rich man is to glory in being humbled [by trials revealing human frailty, knowing true riches are found in the grace of God], for like the flower of the grass he will pass away. For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; its flower falls off and its beauty fades away; so too will the rich man, in the midst of his pursuits, fade away.  -James 1:9-11

It is so easy to fall trap to wanting, desiring, and focusing on the rich and famous lifestyle. Sometimes we go to great lengths to make it appear like we are there when we really aren’t, living beyond our means. This causes stress financially and in our marriages and we end up getting second jobs or doing things on the side which takes time away from our family to where it puts stress on the whole family. If our purpose/goal in life is to become rich and famous we are chasing an empty dream. If our purpose is to bring glory to God, to make the world a better place, and to help other people succeed then we will experience fulfillment and quite honestly our legacy will live on much further than if we died rich & famous and missed that relationship with God. Does this mean a rich person can’t get into heaven? What is considered rich? It comes down to our heart posture, what are we focused on, how we live our lives, and our relationship with Jesus. What are we focused on today?

“I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it’s not the answer.”  -Jim Carrey

“The real measure of our wealth is how much we’d be worth if we lost all of our money.”  -John Henry Jowett

“Money and success don’t change people; they merely amplify what is already there.”  -Will Smith
